Wine API FAQ

What is a wine API?

A wine API lets your application request wine information in a machine-readable format. Winevery returns JSON for wine searches, individual profiles, similar wines and food pairing suggestions.

Is there a free wine API plan?

Yes. The Winevery Sandbox includes 250 credits each month, one active API key and up to 10 requests per minute. It is for evaluation and personal projects. No payment card is required. Search and profile requests cost 1 credit each; similarity costs 3 and food pairing costs 5.

How much does the Winevery wine API cost?

Developer costs $29/month for 10,000 credits. Startup costs $99/month for 100,000 credits. Business costs $299/month for 500,000 credits. Enterprise volumes and service agreements are priced separately. API plans are separate from Wine Passport membership.

What data does the wine database API include?

Available fields include the wine name, producer, country, region, grapes, wine type, style, alcohol level, rating, taste profile and recorded food pairings. Coverage varies by wine. Missing values remain null or empty.

How many wines can I search?

Winevery provides access to up to 2 million wines. Search by wine name, producer, grape or region, with country and wine-type filters. The catalogue endpoint returns the current available record count and field coverage. Search returns up to 48 wines per page.

Does Winevery have a food and wine pairing API?

Yes. Send an English dish description to POST /api/v1/pairings. The response includes wine suggestions and matching reasons based on the ingredients and recorded wine attributes. You can specify mild, medium or hot for spicy food. A successful pairing request costs 5 credits.

Can the API recommend wines similar to another bottle?

Yes. Use a wine ID or slug with GET /api/v1/wines/{id}/similar. Winevery compares the recorded style, grape, origin and available taste dimensions, and returns up to 12 alternatives with matching reasons. Each successful request costs 3 credits.

Can startups and enterprises use the wine API commercially?

Paid plans allow commercial application use, including wine apps, shops and hospitality products. For higher volumes, bulk delivery or contractual support, contact hello@winevery.com with your requirements. Raw-data resale, standalone feeds and sublicensing require a separate written agreement.

Can I use the API with Python or JavaScript?

Yes. Winevery uses standard HTTPS requests and JSON responses, so it works with Python, Node.js and other server-side languages. Pass your API key in the Authorization header as a Bearer token. The documentation includes cURL, Python and JavaScript examples, plus an OpenAPI specification.

Does the API include live wine prices or label scanning?

The current API covers wine reference data, search, similarity and food pairing. It does not provide live retailer prices, stock availability or wine-label image recognition.

What happens when I reach my API limit?

Requests stop at your credit allowance; there are no automatic overage charges. Paid credits reset with the monthly subscription period. Sandbox credits reset on the first day of each month in UTC. Failed requests do not consume credits. A rate-limit or quota response includes a Retry-After header.

Can I cache wine API responses?

You may cache returned metadata for the subscribed application under the API terms. Bulk exports, redistribution, sublicensing and model-training rights require a separate agreement.

Can I change or cancel my API subscription?

Yes. The developer dashboard lets you change plans, update payment details, view invoices and cancel renewal. Plan changes show a prorated billing preview before you confirm. Cancellation retains paid access until the end of the current billing period.

Integration details are in the documentation. For licence questions, read the API terms or contact us.

For adults of legal drinking age. Enjoy responsibly.
